Throughout the ages, mankind has meticulously selected and packed their most loved possessions into their tombs, to accompany them to the next world.
More recently Frederik the Great was buried with his 11 whippets.
Whilst I greatly treasure my whippets and horses, I would also like to include some of my precious works which have marked the very important moments in my life. Some glorious; others downright ghastly.
In November 2016 I lost my son Nicky, aged just 22. My work ‘Setraline’ described the way I ‘sort of felt’ through those very dark days: a sensation of being wrapped up in cotton wool. Just floating through life.
‘A Shattered Marriage’ and ‘When the Good Time Ended’ portray the upheaval in my life when my 26 year old marriage fell apart. Combined with the shocking death of my son, these happenings destroyed what had -until then- been a heavenly family life. A work which shows the happiness and fulfilment which motherhood brought upon me - ‘Bliss: Marriage and Motherhood’ is also included.
‘The Abduction of Nicky’: I always felt that my beautiful son Nicky was traumatically snatched away from me and from earth, by a divine power. You can see it here.
I connected with a medium, who eased my pain a little: she explained that Nicky was always destined to be called away early, and that he is happy where he is.
My success as a magazine publisher in Paris, starting with the launch of Boulevard magazine in 1991 and ending with over 20 publications in 2020 is expressed in ‘On Top of it’: Media mogul in Paris
Souvenirs of my best moments as editor-in-chief of Divento.com are the reviews I write and a series of interviews with the fascinating people behind the scenes: the directors of Europe’s top museums.
Nor could I do without a series of works on cushions which I painted one by one, to embellish a sad grey sofa, bought on ebay.
Finally I would like to stow away my industrial art collection.
I have always found obsolete tech objects fascinating: they invariably tell an intriguing story but I became passionate about works which combine function - mostly technical - with design.
So I have carefully built up a collection which shows a harmony between the function of each object and its design.
